We talked on the phone for hours about little things, because after all, he didn’t know me and I didn’t know him. We talked about what kind of car we wanted; whether we liked “church” and which church we liked (we were in the same denomination, so that made things easy); what we wanted to major in when we got to college; whether we wanted to be marry some day and how many kids we wanted. We just wanted to get to know each other, because we were “just talking.”
One of our favorite dates when we were “just talking” was skating. He liked to skate and I wanted to learn to skate, so roller skating was perfect. I was a fast learner and soon we were skating slowly on the “couples only” songs. I would imagine I was Mrs. Franklin as we slow-skated!!! He skated backward with such confidence and finesse, but, I would never tell him because we were “just talking,” and “not serious.” Another favorite dating spot were my school’s football games. Since our drill team performed at half-time, he would come to see me perform and take me home after the game. Of course he would hold my hand, but that was it because we were “just talking.”
Our third dating “hot spot” was church!! We dated at his church, at my church, at his mom’s church, at the church his dad pastored, and as visitors at churches uncommon to both of us. This was fun for us because we both really “liked” going to church. In our culture we only went to church services two Sundays a month and we attended Sunday School every Sunday. But we liked to attend church services so much that we attended services every Sunday I guess it was a “given” that we would be in ministry. “Just talking” was the bomb. 

[/column]
rich"}
